Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy was jailed on Tuesday at the Santé prison in Paris, nearly a month after his conviction in the case of secret financing of his 2007 election campaign.
The 70-year-old Sarkozy arrived at Santé prison in southern Paris Tuesday morning, according to media reports.
The former president (2007–2012) was sentenced on September 25 to five years in prison after being found guilty in the case of secret financing of his 2007 presidential campaign by Libya, which was then led by Colonel Muammar Gaddafi.
