Church of Uganda partners with Paxtel Telecom to promote digital transformation

Overview:

The collaboration is anchored on a shared vision to use mobile technology to strengthen community engagement, expand digital access, and foster financial inclusion among members of the Church of Uganda.

In a landmark move set to redefine how the Church engages with technology and communication, the Church of Uganda has entered into a strategic partnership with Paxtel Telecom, designating the company as its official Communication Partner across the entire Province.

The announcement was made by The Most Rev. Dr. Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu, Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the Provincial Secretariat in Namirembe on Friday, October 10, 2025.

“It is with profound joy that I announce that Paxtel Telecom has been officially designated as the Communication Partner of the Church of Uganda,” Archbishop Kaziimba said. “By the grace of God, we signed this MoU today, which will guide our partnership and open new pathways for innovation and service delivery across the Church.”

The Archbishop was joined by several members of the Board of Trustees, represented by Bishops Micheal Chorey (Karamoja Diocese), Onesimus Asiimwe (North Kigezi), Hannington Suubi (East Busoga), and Jackson Baalwa (Assistant Bishop, Diocese of Kampala).

Archbishop Kaziimba also extended appreciation to Paxtel Telecom’s Chairman, Mr. John Kamya Mukalazi, and his team for their generosity in donating UGX 50 million to the Retired Clergy Fund and UGX 10 million to Karamoja Diocese.

The Archbishop revealed that the partnership’s origins trace back to August 2025, when Paxtel’s leadership addressed the Church’s Board of Trustees at the Kabalega Resort Hotel in Hoima.

“Chairman Kamya’s presentation on how the Church could harness opportunities in the telecom industry planted a seed that has borne fruit today,” Archbishop Kaziimba said.

The collaboration is anchored on a shared vision to use mobile technology to strengthen community engagement, expand digital access, and foster financial inclusion among members of the Church of Uganda.

The MoU outlines five key focus areas:

  1. Creating a unified communication platform across Church institutions to enhance coordination and outreach.
  2. Advancing technology-driven service delivery, promoting digital literacy and job creation for the youth.
  3. Establishing sustainable revenue streams for the Church without capital expenditure.
  4. Promoting financial inclusion and literacy among congregants.
  5. Enhancing support for healthcare and social services through improved connectivity.

Archbishop Kaziimba emphasized that the partnership represents a new era of faith-based innovation and responsible stewardship, aligning with the Church’s broader goal of sustainable development.

“As I have often said, many old tools cannot counteract new challenges. We need new tools for new challenges,” he noted. “I believe Paxtel Telecom is a tool that will help the Church counteract the challenges we face today.”

The Archbishop linked this initiative to the Church’s broader economic empowerment agenda, which includes investments in mining, agriculture, education, and healthcare, highlighting that the telecom partnership is the latest in a series of ventures designed to leverage the Church’s vast assets for social and economic transformation.

“We are taking the first step into the telecom industry by God’s grace,” he said. “This partnership is not just a business venture but a Kingdom opportunity. Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain (Psalm 127:1). We pray that the Lord blesses this initiative to bear fruit for His glory and for the transformation of His people.”

The Archbishop said the partnership underscores the Church’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and faith-driven development. Through the collaboration, the Church aims to reach millions of believers across the country more efficiently — using digital platforms for evangelism, education, and social impact.

“May this partnership flourish, may it empower our people, and may it serve as a testimony that the Church of Uganda is committed to innovative, sustainable, and God-honoring development,” Archbishop Kaziimba said. “To God be the glory, great things He has done.”
