Ugandan Parliament is ready to host the East African inter-Parliamentary Games which will be held in various parts of the country from 5 and will end on 17 December.

Ugandan Parliament is ready to host the East African inter-Parliamentary Games which will be held in various parts of the country from 5 and will end on 17 December.

The goal of these games is to establish a strong relationship , popularisation of the integration and show the meaning of exercise to the people which is in line with Article 49(2) (a)of the Treaty for the Establishment

of the East African Community.

Asuman Basalirwa (Bugiri Municipality),  chairman local organizing committee of the 15th edition of the East African community inter parliamentary games, spoke at a press conference at Parliament and confirmed that they are prepared enough since trainings begun in September.

Countries expected to participate in the tournament include; Kenya, Burundi, Rwanda, South Sudan, Democratic Republic of Congo, Tanzania , Somalia, and the East African Legislative Assembly.

They will be competing in games like, Volleyball , basketball, football, netball, golf, Darts for members with disabilities  athletics,  among others  and entrance is free to the spectators.

The games will be held at venues that the local organizing committee is yet to  communicate.

According to Basalirwa, the government has not invested any money in preparation for these games and every country that will take part will be responsible for caring for it’s players in terms of food and accommodation .

Apart from the fact that the games will increase the relationship between MPs and those from other countries, Basalirwa said they will also foster unity among local MPs from various political parties.

 

Businessmen who would like to sell in sports venues are called upon to benefit from this  since they won’t be charged any fee.

The last inter_paliarmentary  games were held in Kenya in December, 2024 and this is going to mark the 15th  round when different parliaments compete in inter parliamentary games.
