KAMPALA — Collins Tanga has reclaimed victory as National Youth League Chairperson after winning a decisive 68% of the vote in Thursday’s elections for the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) Youth League leadership.
Collins secured 2,185 votes against his closest rival Brenda Kiconco, who polled 1,017 votes, according to official results released by the NRM Electoral Commission.
The election was part of the party’s nationwide exercise to choose new leaders for the Youth and Entrepreneurs’ Leagues and flag bearers for Youth Members of Parliament.
The vote, held in all 151 NRM districts, had been postponed earlier this year following disputes over candidate eligibility and was closely watched as a test of internal party cohesion ahead of the 2026 general elections.
Collins, who is the son of NRM Electoral Commission chairperson Dr. Tanga Odoi, had faced intense scrutiny during the campaigns after rivals challenged his eligibility, leading to the earlier suspension of the polls.
Thursday’s result, however, consolidates his position as the head of the party’s youth wing.
