Iganga, Uganda – National Unity Platform (NUP) president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, has extended an invitation to former Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga to abandon the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) and join the opposition.
Speaking during the inauguration of the new NUP regional offices in Iganga, Kyagulanyi told supporters that Kadaga has been unfairly treated within the NRM despite her decades of service and loyalty.
> “Here, among the forces of change, she will be loved, respected, and honored the way she deserves.”
Bobi Wine, however, positioned NUP as a natural home for Kadaga, arguing that Busoga’s political destiny lies with change rather than what he described as “disrespect from the regime.” He reminded residents that NUP has roots in the region and urged them to rally behind the party.
“This party belongs to the people of Busoga. Guard it, cherish it, and support it because its foundation is right here,” he added.
Sources within the opposition have hinted that should Kadaga cross to NUP, she would be assured of a senior leadership role with influence, access to international platforms, and greater recognition than what she currently receives in government.
