KCCA Orders Immediate Halt to Illegal Works on Nakivubo Channel

KCCA Orders Immediate Halt to Illegal Works on Nakivubo Channel.

KCCA technical officers will be assigned to guide the project team in aligning the works with regulatory standards and mitigating risks to the community.

Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has ordered the immediate suspension of unapproved works on the Nakivubo Channel after developers commenced excavations and demolitions without statutory clearance.

According to KCCA, the developers had submitted an online proposal for the project under Ref: No. 2425000004692 on February 7, 2025, followed by an amended application on March 31, 2025.

The Authority says the proposal is “innovative and futuristic” but requires a multi-agency assessment due to its significant ecological, social, and infrastructural implications for Kampala and surrounding areas.

However, before the Physical Planning Committee could conclude feasibility and technical studies, the developers went ahead to hoard off the site and begin preliminary works.

KCCA warned that such unregulated activities pose serious risks, including flooding from blocked storm drains, obstruction of businesses, disruption of pedestrian and vehicular traffic, injuries to persons, and possible damage to neighboring structures.

“The Authority is committed to finalizing the review of your development application, but you are required to stop the unregulated and unpermitted activities with immediate effect,” KCCA said in a communication signed by the Director and endorsed by the Minister for Kampala Capital City and Metropolitan Affairs, as well as the Lord Mayor.
