MTN Uganda and Kiira Motors Drive E-Mobility and Connectivity for the Rwenzori Marathon

The road to Kasese will take on new meaning for the Rwenzori Marathon participants this year. As athletes and fans prepare for the Tusker Lite Rwenzori Marathon 2025, MTN Uganda has teamed up with Kiira Motors Corporation to power a greener, smarter, and more connected journey. In a first-of-its-kind partnership, three of Kiira’s locally made electric buses will ferry participants from Kampala to the Rwenzoris, each fitted with MTN’s high-speed onboard Wi-Fi.

The electric fleet; one Kayoola E-Coach and two Kayoola EVS buses, will be supported by newly installed DC fast chargers at new Charging Stations in Mubende and Kasese. On board, travelers will enjoy MTN high-speed Wi-Fi powered by countrywide LTE coverage from robust high-performance routers capable of connecting up to 100 devices simultaneously.  The marathon participants are bound to enjoy seamless connectivity throughout the scenic journey.

For runners and fans alike, this means staying in touch with loved ones, sharing the experience in real time, or streaming entertainment on the way to one of Uganda’s most spectacular destinations.

“At MTN, we believe connectivity has the power to transform experiences. By powering Kiira’s electric buses with our fastest 4G internet, we are ensuring that every traveler to the Rwenzori Marathon enjoys a world-class digital experience on the move. Together our connection is unstoppable,” said Nicholas Mpanga, MTN Uganda’s Senior Consultant for Managed Network Solutions.

Paul Isaac Musaasizi, CEO of Kiira Motors Corporation, added: “The Tusker Lite Rwenzori Marathon is the perfect stage to showcase Uganda’s innovation in sustainable mobility. With our Kayoola electric buses and MTN’s seamless connectivity, we are proving that a greener, smarter future is possible today.”

The Tusker Lite Rwenzori Marathon, scheduled for August 23, 2025, is more than a race. It is an international platform that promotes wellness, spotlights the fragile Rwenzori glaciers, and drives tourism in western Uganda. Kiira’s role as the official e-Mobility Partner reinforces the event’s sustainability agenda while highlighting Uganda’s growing leadership in clean transport solutions.

With regards to the Marathon, traveling to Kasese has been made simple. On the morning of August 22, the three buses will depart from Forest Mall in Kampala, heading to Shell, Kasese. On marathon day, participants shall be transported from the parking area to the starting line at the Equator, after which the buses will remain on exhibition in Kasese, before embarking on a return journey to Kampala the next day.
