The Treasurer of the NRM Parliamentary Caucus, Hon Faith Nakut, has called for mutual understanding among contenders vying for the Central Executive Committee (CEC) position.
Her remarks come amid growing tension and stiff competition between Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga and Speaker Anita Among, both contesting for the position of NRM Vice Chairperson for the Eastern Region.
MP Nakut, who also serves as the Woman MP for Napak District, emphasized the need to avoid internal divisions within the party suggesting that, rather than fueling rivalry, the NRM Chairperson, President Yoweri Museveni, should consider making direct appointments to certain high ranking positions just as has been done in the past.
She pointed to precedent, noting that several key positions within the party, such as the NRM Secretary General and Parliamentary Commissioners, have previously been filled through presidential appointment rather than election.
