The NRM registrar for Serere district, William Olir, has been charged with two counts of forgery and falsification of declaration forms and remanded to Serere Government Prison until August 5 this year.
Olir who was arrested on Wednesday appeared before the Serere Grade One Magistrate, Eddmond Okiror Okwi today, Thursday, 24thJuly, 2025.
Olir is accused of falsifying NRM forms for Pingire County, falsely declaring Peter Paul Emaju as the elected NRM Flagbearer for Kasilo County despite allegedly not being the right winner.
Olir, who appeared before the Serere Grade One Magistrates Court on Thursday, July 24, 2025, is accused of manipulating results at the NRM tally center and unlawfully declaring Peter Paul Emagu as the party’s flag bearer despite not being the rightful winner.
The prosecution, led by State Attorney Paul Okello, told court that the alleged electoral fraud occurred on July 17, 2025. Olir, dressed in a yellow long-sleeved shirt, pleaded not guilty to the charges and insisted on his innocence.
The case stems from complaints filed by rival candidates Peter Ojiit and Esther Lucy Acom, who accused Olir of orchestrating a vote-rigging scheme that undermined the integrity of the NRM primaries.
Acom lost the Serere Woman MP flag to Hellen Adoa Abeku, while Ojiit was one of the key contenders in the disputed Pingire County race.
The scandal has further deepened cracks within the NRM in Serere, with both Ojiit and Acom petitioning the NRM tribunal in Kampala, demanding a review of the entire primary process and the reversal of fraudulent results.
The court has scheduled Olir’s next hearing for August 5, 2025, as the fallout from the Serere primaries continues to shake confidence in internal party elections.
