The Democratic Front Electoral Commission is set to officially begin the nomination of candidates and the receipt of expressions of interest forms tomorrow, the 11th of July.
According to DF’s election roadmap for the party’s primaries, the return of expressions of interest forms will kick off tomorrow and continue until the 15th of August for local government candidates, while for members of parliament, the period will run until the 22nd of August.
The Party’s Secretary for Mobilization in charge of the party elections, Henry Lubowa, has emphasized that all logistical requirements have been put in place for the smooth running of this important activity.
He added that the activities will officially kick off at 8:00 AM and continue until 5:00 PM at the party headquarters in Namirembe along Bishop Road.
Lubowa noted that over 50 aspiring candidates have so far scheduled to return their expressions of interest forms tomorrow, and that the electoral commission is eagerly waiting for them.
Lubowa has also clarified the requirements aspiring candidates must bring for nomination, including proof of party membership, proof of payment of the nomination fees, and other documentation.
He has, however, cautioned aspiring candidates to refrain from bringing gifts to members of the electoral commission as a means to influence them in their favor.
Earlier this month, the Democratic Front Party announced the expression of interest fees for aspiring candidates: 500,000 shillings for presidential flag bearers, 150,000 shillings for Members of Parliament, 100,000 shillings for municipal mayors, and UGX 70,000 for KCCA city councilors.
LC5 councilors, municipal councilors, and LC3 chairpersons will pay a fee of UGX 20,000, while sub-county councilors will pay UGX 10,000.
Nannyunja Alice, a member of DF’s electoral commission, has emphasized the need for aspiring candidates to follow the guidelines set by the electoral commission and to keep time to ensure the smooth execution of the activities.
