Donald Trump’s Remarks About Putin Leave Russian State TV Stunned.
A Kremlin propagandist has described Donald Trump‘s comment that Vladimir Putin was talking “bulls***” about his full-scale invasion of Ukraine as “scandalous.”
The TV presenter Olga Skabeyeva reacted to the U.S. president’s latest criticism of the Russian leader as she told viewers that the word when dubbed into Russian had been translated into a more gentle one.
Trump’s comments mark his latest criticism of Putin for his reluctance to agree to a U.S.-proposed ceasefire and for Moscow’s continuing bombardment of Ukraine.
In his first months in office, Trump was often criticized for pivoting Washington toward Moscow, unlike the previous Biden administration, which imposed a record level of sanctions for Putin’s aggression.
Russian media had cautiously welcomed Trump’s return to the White House with state TV propagandists boasting that he would suit Moscow’s interests better than Biden.
But now Russian media have noted the shift in Trump’s tone toward Putin and the U.S. president’s latest outburst and state media’s response, suggest that Russia is preparing for an increase in tensions.
Skabeyeva, a presenter on the Russia 1 channel, started a segment on the program 60 Minutes by saying that Trump was making statements “that are getting more and more scandalous.”
The clip showed Trump taking a reporter’s question on Tuesday in which he was asked about how he had expressed his unhappiness with Putin, who has repeatedly stalled on U.S. ceasefire proposals and stepped up drone attacks on Ukraine.
Trump was asked if there would be any new U.S. sanctions on Russia, to which the U.S. president replied he wanted to give Moscow a “little surprise.”
Skabeyeva said Trump’s announcement of more weapons for Ukraine repeated the policy of his predecessor Biden before the anchor introduced the clip in which Trump expressed his displeasure with Russia for “the fourth time in recent days.”
In the clip, Trump said Tuesday that he was “very unhappy” with Putin for talking “bulls***” about the war and because much of what he says “turns out to be meaningless.”
The soundbite dubbed into Russian depicted Trump’s swearword as “glupost” which means “silliness” which Skabeyeva noted was “more delicately” rendered for the Russian audience.
President Donald Trump: “We get a lot of bullsh*** thrown at us by Putin, if you want to know the truth,” Trump said. “He’s very nice all the time, but it turns out to be meaningless.”
Olga Skabeyeva, anchor on the Russia 1 channel: “Newsmaker Donald Trump keeps making statements that are more and more scandalous…a term “bullsh***” was uttered, we deliberately translated it more delicately as ‘silliness’ but there are more harsh interpretations.”
Trump has said that the U.S. would provide weapons to Ukraine to fight Russian aggression, despite the White House last week confirming a pause on the supply of some munitions to Kyiv.
An audio recording from 2024 run by CNN in which Trump said he had threatened Putin with bombing Moscow if he entered Ukraine, plus the U.S. leader’s latest criticism, could mean a tougher stance by Washington toward Moscow is on the cards.
