Museveni Appoints Dr Charles Olaro as Health Ministry Director General
President Yoweri Museveni has appointed Dr. Charles Olaro as the Director General for Health Services at the Ministry of Health.
Dr. Olaro has been serving in this role in an acting capacity since November 2024, following the expiry of the term of Dr. Henry Mwebesa, who was subsequently appointed by President Museveni as chairperson of the Health Service Commission.
Various stakeholders in the health sector congratulated Dr. Olaro upon his appointment to the role.

Dr. Olaro’s contribution to the health sector over the years has been unwavering and palpable.
As a senior consultant surgeon, he has been central to shaping the clinical and healthcare system in Uganda.
Dr. Olaro previously served as director of curative services in the Ministry of Health after serving as a hospital director and senior consultant surgeon at Fort Portal Regional Referral Hospital for 8 years, where he joined as a medical superintendent in 2008.
Prior to that, he also served as a medical superintendent and consultant surgeon at Arua Regional Referral Hospital from April 2001 to June 2008.
From 1992 to 2006, Dr. Olaro worked as a medical officer special grade, senior house officer, and medical officer at Arua, Mulago, and Lacor Hospitals, respectively.
