AS the highly anticipated Africa U-17 Cup of Nations (AFCON U-17) finals get underway this Friday, Tanzanian national under-17 football team coach, Agrey Morris, has expressed confidence in his team’s ability to navigate a challenging group and secure a spot in the quarter-finals.

The AFCON U-17 finals will take place in Morocco, running until April 19th. Tanzania has been drawn into Group A, where they will face tough competition from the host nation Morocco, as well as Uganda and Zambia.

“We are in a tough group, but we believe we have what it takes to make it to the quarter-finals. That’s our main goal because it guarantees us a place in the World Cup,” said Morris, who is optimistic about his side’s chances in the tournament.

Morris urged Tanzanians to rally behind the young squad, stressing that the players are well-prepared and fully committed to delivering results for their country. “Tanzanians should have faith in these young players. We are well-prepared and everyone is ready to fight for the country,” he added.

In the lead-up to the competition, the Tanzanian team enjoyed a successful training camp in Egypt. Morris highlighted the importance of this preparation, noting the team’s readiness for the challenge ahead in Morocco.

“The Egypt camp was a huge success for us. The boys played enough friendly matches to prepare for what we expect here in Morocco, which is nothing less than qualifying for the World Cup,” he explained.

The AFCON U-17 finals will be crucial for the team, with the top teams securing a coveted place at the FIFA U-17 World Cup. Tanzania will kick off their AFCON U17 campaign against Zambia on March 31 at 5:00 PM (East African Time). The match will take place at El Bachir Stadium in Casablanca.
