The Buganda Kingdom has issued a statement expressing its disapproval of being omitted from Uganda’s official map. Recently, various government bodies have been producing maps that depict different regions according to their ethnic identities.

For instance, regions have been designated as Ankole, Busoga, Bunyoro, Tooro, Lango, among others. Yet, Buganda has merely been categorized as the Central region. This discrepancy caught the attention of some individuals, leading to concerns about this issue. In response, the Kingdom’s spokesperson, Mr. Kazibwe Israel, released a statement denouncing this oversight. He also echoed the Kabaka’s position on the matter. He emphasized that this problem has persisted for some time and noted that the Kabaka addressed it during his 63rd birthday celebration.

Kabaka Mutebi stated that this mislabeling is misguided and encouraged his subjects to remain calm in light of the situation. Furthermore, Kazibwe pointed out that a similar mistake occurred with the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) during the recent census. However, after discussions with Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga, UBOS recognized their error and pledged to correct it.

In his additional remarks, Kazibwe mentioned that the Katikkiro is aware of another map that is currently circulating and acknowledged that this effort is being instigated by those who wish to undermine the kingdom and hinder its efforts to elevate Buganda once again.

Nonetheless, Kazibwe assured the Baganda that no one can remove Buganda from the map or cause its destabilization. This is due to the fact that the entire history of Uganda is intertwined with that of Buganda.

Below is the complete statement from Mr. Kazibwe Israel:-

“The Kingdom’s spokesperson, Mr. Kazibwe Israel, spoke to the media and reiterated the Kabaka’s stance along with that of the Katikkiro (Prime Minister) regarding this matter.

Mr. Kazibwe stated that this issue is deeply rooted in history, recalling that during his 63rd birthday celebrations, the Kabaka condemned those responsible for this act, calling it malicious. He also urged the people of Buganda to remain calm in the face of such provocations.

Officials from **UBOS (Uganda Bureau of Statistics)**, the body responsible for Uganda’s population census, later apologized to the Kingdom, clarifying that they had also released a map containing this error. They later met with Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga and promised to rectify the issue.

Recently, there has been widespread circulation of maps excluding Buganda. On this matter, Mr. Kazibwe warned that those spreading such maps are deliberately attempting to erase the Kingdom from public discourse, especially amid ongoing efforts to undermine Buganda’s significance.
