Minister for Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Norbert Mao
The Minister for Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Norbert Mao, has initiated efforts to reconcile the Uganda Law Society (ULS) and the Judiciary following rising tensions between the two institutions.
Mao revealed that he has engaged top judicial officials, including Chief Justice Alphonse Owiny-Dollo, High Court Judge Justice Musa Ssekaana, and Attorney General Kiryowa Kiwanuka, in discussions aimed at restoring harmony.
The reconciliation efforts come in the wake of a second court order for the arrest of ULS President Isaac Ssemakadde over statements deemed demeaning to the Director of Public Prosecutions, Jane Frances Abodo.
According to Mao, some judicial officials have responded positively to the mediation process. He now plans to meet with Ssemakadde to update him on the progress and encourage his support for reconciliation.
The Minister further stated that the Judiciary is primarily seeking an apology from Ssemakadde, which could pave the way for a resolution.
Meanwhile, ULS Vice President Anthony Asiimwe welcomed the mediation efforts, affirming that the society will respond positively to ensure a peaceful resolution between both parties.
