The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) leaders in Lira City have officially endorsed Health Minister Hon. Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero as their preferred candidate for the Lira City Woman Member of Parliament (MP) seat in the 2026-2031 term.

During a meeting held on March 15, 2025, at Dr. Aceng’s residence in Ireda, Lira City East Division, 253 FDC leaders from across the city expressed their support, citing her outstanding leadership and commitment to the development of Lira City.

They also pledged to mobilize votes for her in the upcoming elections.

The decision follows a month-long consultation process conducted by FDC leaders across the city.

While acknowledging their opposition to the ruling NRM government, FDC members argued that Lira City’s future is at stake.

Given that both candidates for the seat are serving ministers in the NRM government, they believe that Dr. Aceng is the best choice based on her track record.

The FDC leaders emphasized their commitment to an issue-based and peaceful campaign, rejecting any form of intimidation, blackmail, or personal attacks in the political contest.

They clarified that their support for Dr. Aceng is solely based on her performance as Lira City Woman MP and as Uganda’s Health Minister, stressing that they have not defected to the NRM and remain firm within the FDC.

In their statement, the FDC leaders urged voters in Lira City to renew Dr. Aceng’s mandate in 2026 to ensure continued progress for the city.

The endorsement was signed by Okello Newton Freddie (General Secretary FDC Lira City), Obote Denis (Chairman FDC Lira City), Moses Etyang (Chairman FDC Lira City East Division), Mzee Ogwal Bonny (Chairman FDC Lira City West Division) and Ms. Oroma Janet (Chairperson Women’s League FDC Lira City).
