Czeh Defence Ministry confirms F-35 fighter jet procurement remains on schedule

The Czech Ministry of Defence has reaffirmed its commitment to acquiring F-35 fighter jets from the United States, stating that the procurement process is progressing as planned. Despite concerns about potential geopolitical implications, officials maintain that the acquisition follows an agreed timeline and remains unaffected by current international developments.

In response to public and media inquiries, the ministry clarified that the contract is structured as a government-to-government agreement, ensuring legal and logistical security. There are no restrictions within the agreement that would limit the Czech Republic’s ability to deploy the aircraft independently for national defence purposes.

Addressing questions regarding American influence over the operational capabilities of the F-35, officials stated that the United States cannot remotely disable the aircraft. However, access to certain cryptographic keys could be restricted, potentially complicating operations. The ministry does not anticipate the U.S. taking such measures against its NATO ally, as it would contradict alliance interests.

The Czech government has also dismissed concerns about possible disruptions to the deal, confirming that both parties are adhering to the agreed-upon schedule. The U.S. has been providing technical support and training for Czech personnel to ensure a smooth transition to the fifth-generation aircraft.

When asked about the possibility of switching suppliers or acquiring alternative aircraft, officials stated that no comparable fifth-generation fighter jet is currently available from other manufacturers. The F-35 has been widely adopted within NATO, and countries operating the F-16 are transitioning to the newer platform to maintain strategic alignment.

The Czech Republic remains reliant on foreign suppliers for advanced military technology, as no domestic manufacturers produce comparable aircraft. Demand for the F-35 remains high worldwide, with 20 nations already placing orders, further reinforcing the necessity of maintaining the existing contract.

Both the Czech and U.S. governments have confirmed that there are no delays in the delivery schedule. The Ministry of Defence concluded that acquiring the F-35 is essential for ensuring the long-term operational effectiveness of the Czech Air Force and its ability to contribute to NATO defence objectives.
