7 Israelis injured in Brooklyn apartment fire, 1 critically

Seven were injured, including one in serious condition, after a fire broke out at a Yeshiva dormitory on Brooklyn’s Eastern Parkway on Friday morning, according to Chabad Lubavitch World Headquarters media, COLLIVE.com.

Four were hospitalized, later being identified as Israeli yeshiva students who were studying at 770 Yeshiva, named for Chabad Lubavitch’s World Headquarters at 770 Eastern Parkway.

The fire was reportedly started by an outdoor radiator plugged into an electrical outlet, resulting in the apartment being completely engulfed in flames and the personal belongings of 19 students being burned.

A later report by COLLIVE described how several in the dormitory were able to escape the blaze by smashing through glass windows and climbing out.

The report added that they left behind all their possessions, including passports for the Israeli students.

One in critical condition

The individual in critical condition was unable to escape and fainted due to smoke inhalation before being found by a firefighter 15 minutes later. He was later identified as a 20-year-old from Lod.

Ynet cited witnesses as saying that the man was initially declared dead, but emergency teams managed to revive him.
