Four Shot Dead in Stanbic Bank Robbery at Kololo.
Police have successfully foiled a daring bank robbery at Acacia Mall, neutralizing four suspects during an attempted heist at Stanbic Bank.
A fifth suspect is in “critical condition” and is currently under police custody at a local hospital, according to a statement issued by Uganda Police Force on Monday evening.
“These individuals were already on the police watch list and are believed to be linked to a series of robberies,” the statement added.
This swift action by the police is being hailed as a major breakthrough in combating organized crime in Kampala.
Eyewitnesses reported a heavy police presence at the scene, with officers cordoning off the area and ensuring the safety of mall patrons.
No civilians were harmed during the incident.
Police said further updates, including the identities of the suspects and details of their alleged prior activities, will be shared as investigations progress.
In December 2024, the Uganda Police Force reported the arrest of “over 200 individuals in a police crackdown on urban gangs involved in robbery and attacks on people by criminals armed with machetes, clubs, and sticks.”
In a July 2024 statement regarding a separate robbery incident in Busia District, the police disclosed: “A key suspect has been arrested in connection with an aggravated robbery where a mobile money agent was robbed of over ten million shillings and five telephones by individuals armed with a gun.”
These incidents highlight the ongoing challenges of armed robberies in Uganda, prompting intensified police efforts to combat the threat and enhance public safety.
