The Deputy Press Secretary to the President of Uganda, Hajj Faruk Kirunda, has strongly refuted claims circulating on social media regarding the appointment of Hon. Justice Yorokamu Bamwine as Chairman of the Electoral Commission, with Hon. Syda Bbumba as his deputy.
Kirunda dismissed these reports as “fake news” in an official statement. “The General Public is called upon to regard as FAKE NEWS the social media story indicating that H.E. Kaguta Museveni has appointed Hon. Justice Yorokamu Bamwine to head the Electoral Commission, and to be deputized by Hon. Syda Bbumba,” he stated.
He emphasized that official announcements regarding such appointments will be made through proper channels, not social media. “When such appointments are made, they will be communicated through official sources,” Kirunda reiterated.
This clarification from State House comes at a crucial time as Uganda prepares for the 2026 general elections. The leadership of the Electoral Commission plays a vital role in ensuring free, fair, and transparent elections, making this issue of significant public interest.
