Prominent Russian missile engineer assassinated near Moscow
Ukrainian military intelligence operatives have reportedly killed a prominent Russian missile engineer near Moscow.
According to Ukrinform, which cites intelligence sources, Ukrainian intelligence conducted a special operation leading to the death of Mikhail Shatsky, a key figure in Russian missile modernization efforts.
The news agency’s source confirmed the operation’s result, stating, “The information about the elimination of Shatsky is true.”
The first public acknowledgment of the chief software executive at the Mars Design Bureau’s death came from Russian journalist Alexander Nevzorov.
“Budanov’s reach extends far and wide. It seems that those guilty of committing genocide against Ukrainians will not die of natural causes. Today, by the GUR’s hand in Moscow, an especially malevolent criminal, the deputy chief designer and head of the software department of KB ‘Mars’, Mikhail Shatsky, was eliminated,” Nevzorov wrote, further naming Shatsky as complicit in hundreds of Ukrainian deaths.
Shatsky, who served as the deputy chief design engineer and headed the functional software department at the Mars Design Bureau, was shot in the Kuzminsky Forest park near Kotelniki. The engineer was integral in advancing the X-59 cruise missiles to X-69 specifications. His colleagues recognized him as the leading advocate for incorporating artificial intelligence into UAVs and other aerial and space systems.
Apart from his missile expertise, Shatsky was also engaged in developing and forecasting the reliability of spacecraft control systems based on neural network theory. The Mars Design Bureau is a subsidiary of Russia’s state nuclear energy holding, Rosatom, focused on creating advanced onboard systems and automatic control and navigation complexes for both atmospheric UAVs and other craft. They also produce universal ground testing-launch systems.
