She Cranes Drawn with Hosts Namibia in Africa Netball Cup.
The Uganda National Netball Team, the She Cranes, have been drawn into Pool B alongside hosts Namibia, Zimbabwe, Eswatini, and Lesotho for the upcoming Africa Netball Cup 2024. The tournament is set to take place from December 9th to 14th, 2024, at the MTC Dome in Swakopmund, Namibia.
Pool A features some of the continent’s top competitors, including South Africa, Malawi, defending champions Zambia, and Kenya.
The She Cranes, who last won the championship in 2018 in Lusaka, Zambia, are determined to reclaim the continental crown. With seasoned international stars like Mary Nuba Cholhok of the Queensland Firebirds (Australia) and Faridah Kadondi, who plays for Nottingham Forest (UK), Uganda’s squad is expected to be a formidable force.
The team departed Uganda on Thursday aboard Ethiopian Airways and has settled in Swakopmund, ready to take on Africa’s best teams.
The She Cranes and South Africa Spar Proteas return to the continental stage after opting out of the 2023 edition. South Africa chose to focus on hosting the Netball World Cup in Cape Town, while Uganda and Malawi also missed last year’s tournament, which was won by Zambia.
Despite missing the 2023 championship, South Africa, the 2022 Africa Netball champions, are determined to reclaim their title and cement their dominance.
The men’s category of the Africa Netball Cup will feature eight teams. Defending champions South Africa are drawn in Pool A with Zambia, Kenya, and Lesotho, while Pool B includes Zimbabwe, hosts Namibia, Eswatini, and Burundi.
While the She Cranes have set their sights on the trophy, they face fierce competition from teams like South Africa and defending champions Zambia, who have shown consistent performance in recent years. The stakes are high, and the stage is set for a thrilling display of netball excellence.
The She Cranes’ opening match will test their mettle as they aim to bring home the title and reaffirm their status as one of Africa’s netball powerhouses.
