Kansanga Food Vendor Dies in Drainage Channel.
KAMPALA- A 23-year-old girl who collapsed and fell into a drainage channel has finally been retrieved by the uganda Police Force.
According to the residents who spoke to this reporter, the 22-year-old Margie, a resident of Buluno-Konge zone in Makindye division, tragically lost her life after falling into a drainage channel in Kansanga during Wednesday morning’s heavy downpour.
Residents led by Ibrahim Muzinda, the deceased neighbors, have narrated the events leading up to the tragedy. According to Muzinda, the victim was returning from the market, where she had gone to purchase supplies for her dairy stall, which she operates in the area. It was during this return journey that she accidentally fell into the drainage channel.
According to residents, the victim had been dropped off by a taxi during the morning downpour. Unfortunately, she was later found lifeless in the drainage channel.
“It’s likely that she fell into the channel while trying to cross it,” Muzinda speculated. “She usually woke up early, went to Kasanga to shop for merchandise, and returned by taxi. However, this morning was different due to the rain. We suspect that she was crossing the channel and accidentally fell in.” One resident said.
But Iren Nasoozi, a neighbor of the deceased, revealed that the victim had been battling epilepsy. However, Nasoozi noted that it is unclear whether the victim’s epilepsy played a role in her fatal fall into the drainage channel.
“We were aware of her condition, but we cannot say for certain whether she had a seizure that caused her to fall into the channel or if it was simply an accident,” Nasoozi said.
After the tragic incident, residents of the area are calling on the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) to take immediate action to improve safety measures along the drainage channels.
The shocking death follows the recent death of Benon Kikawa, a primary teacher at Our Lady of Futuma School, located in Nakulabye Zone 6, within Lubaga Division, a Kampala city suburb whose body was discovered floating in the Lubigi drainage channel.
Recently the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) warned the general public to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions, particularly during heavy rainfall.
“We advise the public to exercise extreme caution when navigating drainage channels and potholes, especially during rainfall.
