Juventus ponder move for wantaway Lyon star Nicolas Tagliafico.

In light of Lyon’s financial struggles, Juventus are contemplating the acquisition of Argentine defender Nicolas Tagliafico in January, according to Calciomercato. Juventus believe Tagliafico could be a good reinforcement to the squad that lost left-back Juan Cabal to an unfortunate ACL injury while training with the Colombia national team last week.

Juventus have been offered the opportunity to sign Tagliafico in the coming weeks, and club sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli is seriously considering a move for the Argentine World-Cup winning defender.

Tagliafico, who is currently 32 years old, could be a bargain buy for the Bianconeri in January, given his versatility. The former Ajax man can operate both as a left-back as well as a left-sided centre-back. Calciomercatio mentions that Lyon will be ready to sell their defender for no more than €5 million in the winter transfer window.

Additionally, the club has already suffered two ACL injuries this term in centre-back Gleison Bremer and left-back Cabal. Strengthening the defence in January has become a priority for Juventus if they are to challenge for silverware.

Lyon could be forced to sell a handful of their stars in January. The National Directorate of Management Control (NDMC), the financial regulators of French football, have imposed sanctions on Lyon due to their reported debts of approximately €500 million (£418m). The club will be prohibited from making any signings in January, and if they do not resolve their financial issues by the end of the season, they face relegation to Ligue 2. Additionally, Lyon’s payroll will now be closely monitored by the NDMC.

Juventus will be aiming to not only preserve their unbeaten run in Serie A this season, but also potentially finish the weekend as the table-toppers when take on a struggling AC Milan side on Saturday, November 23.
