Germany keeper Alexander Nübel laments failed clean sheet vs. Hungary
Bayern Munich loanee Alexander Nübel is enjoying another strong season between the sticks at VfB Stuttgart — and that has resulted in call-ups to the German men’s national team, and chances to impress.
Germany boss Julian Nagelsmann handed Nübel the start in the second of Germany’s two November international fixtures and the 28-year-old stood tall, making several excellent saves in the face of determined opposition.
Alas, German resistance broke down at the last. Hungary earned a penalty in the game’s dying seconds and Liverpool FC star Dominik Szoboszlai stepped up to chip a cheeky panenka with the last kick of the game.
Nübel was disappointed, naturally. But not forlorn.
“I would have liked to have kept a clean sheet and won here,” Nübel explained in comments captured via DFB.de. “It wasn’t quite the end to the year that we had imagined, but we can be satisfied.
