Poland Reopens Embassy in N. Korea after 4-Yr. Pandemic Shutdown

Poland has reopened its embassy in North Korea after a four-year suspension due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a press release on Friday, Poland’s foreign ministry said a diplomatic delegation was visiting Pyongyang until Saturday, and that the embassy will operate as a temporary mission for limited personnel for the time being.

The ministry said the representatives intend to restore Poland’s permanent diplomatic presence in Pyongyang and to inspect for technical preparations.

Poland became the second Western nation to resume the operation of its embassy in Pyongyang after Sweden, which reopened its mission in September.

The restored diplomatic channels by Poland and Sweden, which are both members to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization(NATO), will be helpful as NATO responds to North Korea’s deployment of troops to Russia to back its war against Ukraine.
