C. Equatoria governor urges head teachers to curb child drug abuse.
Central Equatoria State (CES) Governor Agustino Jadalla Wani has urged head teachers to fight drug abuse among schoolchildren across the state.
Acting Information and Communication Minister Gerald Francis expressed the Governor’s sentiments after the CES Extra Ordinary Council of Ministers’ Meeting at the State Secretariat on Thursday.
Francis called on the school heads to assert their authority over the schoolchildren who were affected by drugs and alcohol.
He reiterated the Governor’s ban on alcoholic brands like London Number One, Royal Gin, Seven Seven, and Star Gin, which, he said, some children carried in their school bags.
Francis said that some pharmacies across the state were selling dangerous drugs, especially ice and codeine, to the schoolchildren.
The Governor, Francis went on, had urged parents and the public to play their role in countering the growing consumption of drugs and alcohol by schoolchildren.
“His excellency urged the public and the parents to try to inspect the bags of the children going to school, and sometimes pay surprise visits to their institutions,” he said.
