TELL ME MORE

Musiala has been a contender for Golden Boy and Kopa Trophy recognition in the recent past and will believe that he can challenge for the Ballon d’Or at some stage, despite being left off the 2024 list of contenders. His performances at club level will dictate if and when that happens.

Musiala was a menace for Bayern throughout their comfortable win at rock-bottom Bochum. Vincent Kompany’s side delivered the perfect response to their Champions League humbling against Barcelona when easing to three points that has them back on top of the Bundesliga table.

Michael Olise has impressed many since moving to Germany, and the former Crystal Palace star opened the scoring at Vonovia-Ruhrstadion when curling a 16th-minute free-kick over the wall and into the net. Musiala doubled Bayern’s lead with a rare headed goal 10 minutes later, as he glanced home a clipped set-piece delivery from Joshua Kimmich.

Musiala turned creator in the 57th minute as he put the ball through the legs of his marker and rolled the ball into Kane, who did the rest as he crashed into the top corner with his left boot – taking him to 15 goals for the season in all competitions.

Bayern were not done there and still had two stunning strikes up their sleeve. Leroy Sane stepped off the bench to grab the first of those, as he curled left-footed into the top corner from 20 yards out in the 65th minute, and Kingsley Coman dipped a long-range effort in off the underneath of the crossbar six minutes later.

THE MVP

There are occasions in which Jamal Musiala can appear unplayable, and this was one of those games. Struggling Bochum never got to grips with the talented playmaker as he wandered across the field and found pockets of space in which to pop up and influence proceedings. He does not score too many goals with his head, but glanced home in impressive style when darting towards the front post and meeting Kimmich’s cross. His dancing feet had defenders chasing shadows at times, with an acrobatic volley that dropped just wide almost delivering him a second goal. Before the hour mark, a cheeky nutmeg allowed him to tee up Kane for an unerring finish from the prolific No.9.
