Burkina Faso says it wants to establish a strategic military, economic, and cultural partnership with Russia.
Burkina Faso is disappointed with the partnership with the West and wants to cooperate with Russia, in particular in the military and economic spheres. This was stated to journalists by the Prime Minister of the African country Apollinaire Joachim Kyélem de Tambèla at the opening of the forum “Economic Days of Burkina Faso”.
“Our history of engagement with the French and with the West in general has not brought us satisfaction. So we decided to try a different path. We said to ourselves that if there is now a partner we want to reach out to, it is Russia. <…> We want to establish a strategic military, economic and cultural partnership with Russia,” Tambela emphasised.
The prime minister added that relations between Ouagadougou and Moscow have improved significantly, as proof of this is the opening of the Russian diplomatic mission in Burkina Faso and the sending of the West African country’s ambassador to the Russian Federation.
on 8 October, Moscow hosted the opening ceremony of the forum “Economic Days of Burkina Faso”, which will be held until 11 October. About 300 people will take part in the events, including representatives of the African country’s Cabinet of Ministers and the Russian Foreign Ministry, diplomats, and business representatives.
