French Minister of Armed Forces Sébastien Lecornu announced that KNDS France has signed a contract to deliver 12 CAESAR self-propelled howitzers to Ukraine.
The agreement was finalized during an industrial forum held in Kyiv, with the funding provided by the Ukrainian government.
“The increased production capacity of our defense industry allows us to continue supporting Ukraine,” Lecornu said in a statement.
The CAESAR howitzers, known for their mobility and precision, are expected to enhance Ukraine’s artillery capabilities on the battlefield, providing critical firepower in ongoing counteroffensive operations.
The CAESAR system, produced by Nexter (a part of KNDS), is a highly mobile, truck-mounted artillery system capable of firing 155mm shells with a range of up to 40 kilometers. It has been praised for its accuracy and versatility, having been used effectively by various militaries, including France’s own armed forces.
This latest contract adds to the substantial military support that Ukraine has received from Western allies since the onset of Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022.
Lecornu emphasized that France’s defense industry has scaled up its production to meet the growing demand for military equipment, both for domestic defense and for international partners like Ukraine. This increase in production capacity ensures that France can continue to deliver high-quality defense systems, despite the ongoing pressure on global military supply chains.
