FIVE bids have been submitted to host the 2029 Women’s European Championship finals.

European football’s governing body Uefa confirmed declarations of interest had been received from Germany, Italy, Poland and Portugal in hosting the event, along with a joint bid from Denmark and Sweden.

Next year’s finals are set to be hosted in Switzerland, with England winning the last tournament on home soil in 2022, which was delayed by a year as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Uefa said a decision on hosting would be taken in December 2025.

Germany has hosted twice before – as West Germany in 1989 and then again in 2001.

The Germans were also part of a joint bid alongside the Netherlands and Belgium to stage the 2027 Women’s World Cup, but lost out to Brazil in a vote at Fifa Congress earlier this year.

Denmark and Sweden have hosted the Euros separately – in 1991 and 2013 respectively – with the Swedes also jointly holding the role alongside Norway in 1997.

Italy were the 1993 hosts.
