Azerbaijan confirms purchase of JF-17 fighters. On September 25, Azerbaijani President and Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev was presented with the new JF-17C (Block-III) fighter jets at Heydar Aliyev International Airport.

The advanced, all-weather multi-role aircraft, developed in collaboration between Pakistan Aeronautical Complex (PAC) and China’s Chengdu Aircraft Corporation (CAC), has officially entered service with Azerbaijan’s Air Force, according to the country’s defense ministry.

During the ceremony, Azerbaijan’s Defense Minister, Colonel General Zakir Hasanov, reported to President Aliyev, while Vice Marshal Hakim Raza, chairman of Pakistan Aeronautical Complex, provided detailed briefings on the aircraft’s technical specifications and operational features. “The JF-17C (Block-III) is a single-engine, multi-role combat aircraft designed for both air-to-air and air-to-ground combat, boasting high maneuverability at low and medium altitudes and effective firepower,” Raza explained.

The inclusion of the JF-17C (Block-III) strengthens Azerbaijan’s military capabilities. The aircraft offers superior combat agility, modern avionics, and sophisticated weapons systems, making it a versatile platform for both defensive and offensive operations. The fighter jets are expected to enhance Azerbaijan’s operational readiness, particularly in light of regional security challenges.

Azerbaijan reportedly signed a $1.6 billion deal with Pakistan to acquire an unspecified number of JF-17C Block III fighter jets.

The JF-17C Block III variant is equipped with modern avionics and can carry advanced air-to-air and air-to-ground missiles. The aircraft has a range of up to 1,200 kilometers and is capable of delivering precision strikes, making it a key asset for Azerbaijan’s air defense.
