The eyes of the boxing world will be on the heavyweight division when British superstar Anthony Joshua challenges IBF titleholder and countryman Daniel Dubois at Wembley Stadium in London on Sept. 21. The 12-round bout, plus undercard action, will be broadcast by DAZN.
Joshua (28-3, 25 KOs) is coming off a devastating second-round knockout of former UFC champion Francis Ngannou in March. A former two-time unified titleholder, “AJ” is looking to join boxing legends Muhammad Ali, Evander Holyfield, Lennox Lewis and Michael Moorer as boxing’s only three-time heavyweight champions.
“It’s more personal for me, it’s not about being in the history books,” Joshua said in a recent interview with The Sporting News. “I’m a fierce competitor. I like to put myself in tough situations. I develop my mentality, I develop my skills, and I like to put them to the test against the best formidable heavyweights out there.”
Dubois (21-2, 20 KOs) won the interim IBF title by scoring an upset eighth-round stoppage win over Filip Hrgovic in June. The Londoner was later upgraded to full champion when Oleksandr Usyk relinquished that version of the title rather than face Dubois, who he’d already defeated in August of last year. Usyk takes on Tyson Fury in a rematch on Dec. 21 in Riyadh.
The Sporting News will provide live updates, undercard results, and round-by-round scoring on the main event.
