Ukrainian troops shoot down Lancet suicide drone

Ukrainian Defense Forces have made significant strides in countering Russian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) using cost-effective anti-aircraft drone technology.

In a recent operation, the 11th Brigade of the National Guard demonstrated the capability of their anti-aircraft drones by taking down a Russian Lancet UAV, specifically the new modification known as “Izdelie 51.”

The incident was captured in a video shared by Ukrainian volunteer Serhiy Sternenko. The footage shows Ukrainian forces successfully neutralizing the Lancet drone, which is designed for striking ground equipment and critical targets behind enemy lines. According to Russian sources, the new variant has a warhead weighing 5 kg and an extended operational range of up to 70 kilometers.

This latest version of the Lancet, also referred to as the Lancet-3M, comes equipped with a modular guidance system that can be adapted to various mission requirements. It features a broad spectrum of sensors, including infrared and visible spectrum cameras, laser target designators, gas analyzers, and radiometers for enhanced targeting capabilities.

Ukrainian air defense units now frequently deploy FPV (First Person View) drones to combat Russian UAVs, making use of mobile, cost-effective solutions that can effectively counter a wide range of aerial threats.
