The motor company issued the report on Aug. 23 to NHTSA stating that the recall impacts owners of certain 2021-2022 Ford Bronco, Edge, Explorer, F-150, Lincoln Aviator, and Lincoln Nautilus vehicles with either a 2.7L or 3.0L Nano EcoBoost engine.
The report outlined that the vehicles containing those engines could contain intake valves that are prone to cracking and breaking while driving.
“An engine intake valve that fails may lead to catastrophic engine damage resulting in a loss of motive power.” Ford said in the recall report. They state the loss of drive power is a safety risk as it can increase the risk of a crash.
According to additional documents Ford submitted to the NHTSA, the company noted that no reports indicating the issue caused injury or accidents have been made to date.
The Michigan based automaker will send letters to Ford and Lincoln vehicle owners affected by this issue on Oct. 7 and tell dealers on Sept. 30, according to the NHTSA recall report.
Dealers will inspect each vehicle and replace engines that do not pass the engine cycle test for free.
“Owners who have paid to have these repairs completed at their own expense may be eligible for reimbursement, in accordance with the recall reimbursement plan on file with NHTSA.” Ford said.
This recall comes after Ford started an investigation of their vehicles with 2.7L and 3.0L Nano EcoBoost engines in January, and found 22 instances of engine failure, according to Ford’s chronology report.
Other Recalls of Ford Vehicles
Ford submitted two more recall reports to NHTSA on the same day, recalling other vehicles.
The second safety recall report notified owners of 24 specific 2023 Lincoln Corsair, 2023-2024 Ford Escape, 2024 Ford Mustang, and 2025 Ford Explorer vehicles that have fuel injectors that might leak.
According to the recall report, fuel injectors might have been built without O-ring support disks during production, which can lead to a fuel leak. If the fuel builds up near a hot surface or is close to the ignition source, it will increase the risk of a fire under the vehicle’s hood, possibly causing injury.
Owners of the listed vehicles will be notified by letter on Sept. 30; the report states that dealers will install new fuel injector O-rings and O-ring support discs for free.
A third report from the company recalls 373 transit vehicles made in 2024. Ford said the front gross axle weight was wrongly labeled on the vehicle and owner’s manual, which could result in an overloaded vehicle.
The risk of an overloaded vehicle threatens control of steering and potential steering knuckle failure, increasing the risk of a crash, according to the recall report.
Owners will be informed on Sept. 9 through mail and asked to take their vehicle to a Ford or Lincoln dealership to replace the labels and manuals with the correct information.
