The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Katonga faction is all set to hold its maiden delegates conference today, August 19, 2024, during which it is expected to announce the name of the new political party.
According to Kira Municipality legislator, Ibrahim Nganda Ssemujju, the faction will form its own party, given the fact that at least 80 percent of the stakeholders consulted across the country, are in support of the proposal at hand.
Ssemujju said a range of names have been proposed by some individuals but the final will be decided by delegates at the conference, which is expected to be held at Katonga faction offices in Kampala.
He says that between 700- 800 delegates are expected to attend the conference, adding that some of them especially those from Northern Uganda arrived on Sunday.
Ssemujju said that once the party interim president, Mr Erias Lukwago has presented the report, members will adopt it before Godber Tumushabe, a city lawyer and policy analyst gives a keynote address. The founder of FDC, Rt Col Kizza Besigye will then address the delegates.
Ssemujju also revealed that the Katonga faction invited representatives from genuine political parties to save Najjanankumbi.
The Katonga faction is considering forming a new political party, following a break away from the original FDC party.
The decision was reached when FDC, which was the biggest opposition Party in Uganda split into the Katonga and Najjanankumbi factions, following internal accusations of promoting the interests of the ruling National Resistance Movement ( NRM) led by President Museveni.
