A helicopter crash in the mountains northwest of Kathmandu on Wednesday (Aug 7) resulted in the deaths of five people, including four Chinese tourists.

As per a report by Myrepublica newspaper, Nepali police found five bodies at the crash site in Ward No. 7 of Shivapuri Rural Municipality, Nuwakot.

The Nepal-based Air Dynasty helicopter, with the registration 9N-AJD, was flying from Kathmandu to Rasuwa. The helicopter took off from Kathmandu at 1:54 pm (local time) and was heading to Syaphrubensi when the crash happened.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) said that a Prabhu helicopter (9N-ANL) was sent to the crash site right after the accident.

The paper reported that there were five people on board, including four Chinese tourists. The helicopter lost communication with the control tower three minutes after leaving Tribhuvan International Airport, as per the CAAN.

The newspaper, citing a police officer, reported that the remains of the pilot, Arun Malla, and that of two men and one woman had been found at the site of the crash. According to Myrepublica, one body remains unidentified due to severe burns.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Shantiraj Koirala, of Nuwakot’s District Police Office, stated that remains of five persons had been found at the crash scene.

This crash comes just weeks after a Saurya Airlines plane crash claimed 18 lives at the Tribhuvan International Airport on July 24.

Everyone on the Saurya Airlines flight was Nepali, except for one passenger from Yemen, including the co-pilot.

The government has launched an investigation into the crash of the Bombardier CRJ 200, which was en route to Pokhara, Nepal’s second-largest city, for maintenance. According to airport officials, the majority of the passengers were either mechanics or airline staff.
