Ukraine claims Ka-52 shootdown in Kursk region

Several Russian sources reported the downing of a Ka-52 attack helicopter in the Kursk region on August 6.

Russian propagandists claimed the loss occurred during an operation against a purported “Ukrainian breakthrough” at the border. The fate of the crew and the circumstances of the incident have not been disclosed.

Ukrainian military stated that they successfully shot down the Ka-52 during an offensive near the settlement of Sudzha in the Kursk region, which began on August 6.

Later, footage was released showing the burning wreckage of a Ka-52 helicopter in a field.

Border skirmishes have occasionally occurred in Russia’s Belgorod and Kursk regions. These clashes typically involve volunteer units composed of Russians fighting for the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

On March 12 of this year, the “Freedom of Russia” Legion, the “Russian Volunteer Corps,” and the Siberian Battalion breached the Russian border. They entered the border areas of the Kursk and Belgorod regions, creating a “gray zone.” The fighting continued for some time, with the insurgents promising that such operations would persist.
