A sudden explosion at the Nürburgring paddock injured 22 people, including four critically, on Friday evening.
Emergency Services Responded Swiftly
According to Tag24 the incident is believed to have been caused by the explosion of a compressed air cylinder behind a pit box in the paddock area, according to preliminary investigations by the Koblenz police.
The blast resulted in minor injuries such as blast trauma for most of the victims. Emergency services responded swiftly, with four rescue helicopters and several ambulances dispatched to the scene. Additionally, counselors were on-site to provide support.
Despite the incident, the ADAC Ruhr-Pokal-Rennen, a six-hour race and highlight of the Nürburgring Endurance Series (NLS), is scheduled to proceed as planned on Saturday. The organizers have given teams and drivers the option to participate in the race or not.
