A fisherman is missing after being swept off rocks at Small Bay, Bloubergstrand in the Western Cape on Sunday.
The man was last spotted by a family member near the surf line while shoreline angling, before a wave knocked him into the sea.
According to the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI), the local coast watch community promptly initiated a visual search along the coastline.
NSRI Melkbosstrand duty coxswain, Terence Lawson, reported, ‘An NSRI headquarters rescue craft, Spirit of Rotary, was diverted to the scene from a training exercise and assisted in a search operation.’
Additional responders joined the effort.
‘Despite extensive air, sea, and shoreline searches,’ Lawson continued, ‘no sign of the missing man has been found.’
He added, ‘Police divers are continuing an ongoing search. Our thoughts are with the family of the missing man during this difficult time.’
