Justice Duncan Gaswaga wins seat as Judge of the African Court on Human and People’s Rights for a period of 6 years, by a majority of 46 member states, during 45th Session of the African Union Executive Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs underway in Accra
The Ugandan High Court judge was elected by an overwhelming majority of 46 member states, of those present and able to vote at the session.
The African Court was established to enhance protection of human rights and basic freedoms in the continent.
It complements the functions of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights.
Justice Gaswaga is famous for handling a number of cases including the famous Nsenga case in which Jacqueline Uwera Nsenga was sentenced to 20 years imprisonment for the murder of her late husband, Juvenal Nsenga in a disguised vehicle accident.
The  incident saw Jacqueline crash her husband with a vehicle at their family home in Bugolobi, a Kampala suburb on January 10, 2013.
