Uganda Premier League giants, Express Football Club and Uganda Revenue Authority Football Club have chosen to use the newly built Hamz Stadium Nakivubo as their home ground for the 2024–25 UPL season.
The Red Eagles’ departure from Mutesa II Stadium marks the end of an era for the Red Eagles in Wankulukuku, which has been their home since 1991. The first played at Wankulukuku in January 1991 against the now-defunct Coffee FC, following a move from Nakivubo.
For the past two seasons, Express and rivals Sports Club Villa have been sharing Wankulukuku, which, in contrast, saw the former finish 12th with just 32 points, narrowly surviving relegation by seven points.
Additionally, URA FC has registered Nakivubo (Hamz) Stadium as their home ground for next season (2024/25).
Last season, the Revenue Collectors used three different venues, including the Mehta Stadium in Lugazi, the MTN Omondi Stadium in Lugogo, and the Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium.
In a statement released by the club, URA FC hopes: “This move marks a huge milestone for us, relishing memories of our triumphant 2011 Uganda Premier League triumph success, which was last celebrated on this historic ground.”
