Midfielder pens six-year contract to become Postecoglou’s third recruit of the summer.

Tottenham Hotspur have announced the signing of Archie Gray from Leeds United.

The 18-year-old midfielder has agreed a six-year deal with Spurs and becomes their third signing of the transfer window, after Timo Werner and Lucas Bergvall. He will wear the No 14 shirt.

Defender Joe Rodon has gone the other way, making a permanent move from Spurs to Leeds after spending last season on loan at Elland Road.

‘I love Ange!’

Gray has revealed the chance to work with Spurs head coach Ange Postecoglou was a huge factor behind the move. Postecoglou managed and won five trophies with Celtic, the club Gray supports.

“I’m a massive Celtic fan, so I love him! My whole family loves him!” Gray said.

Who is Archie Gray?

Gray, who was born in Durham, comes from a great footballing family. His dad Andy, great uncle Eddie and grandad Frank all played for Leeds.

We look at the extraordinary roots of Spurs’ new signing

He joined Leeds at Under-9s level and progressed through the ranks, making his senior debut against Cardiff City in August 2023, aged 17 years 147 days.

Gray made 52 appearances in all competitions last season for Daniel Farke’s side, who were beaten in the Championship playoff final.

His progress at Elland Road has been rapid and was named EFL Championship Young Player of the Season in 2023/24.

Gray is a versatile player who can slot comfortably into central midfield or at right-back.

He has represented England at Under-16, 17, 20 and 21 levels, marking his debut for the latter with a goal in a 5-1 win over Azerbaijan in March this year.

Gray is still eligible to play for Scotland, whom his grandad Frank and uncle Eddie both represented.

Spurs start their pre-season preparations with a friendly at Queen’s Park Rangers on 20 July, with their Premier League opening fixture at Leicester City on 19 August.
