Macao, (CH): The iSF World Schools Basketball Championship commenced with fervour as Uganda’s national teams, representing Elite High School in the boys’ category and the U-18 FIBA Africa Zone V Basketball qualifiers champions in the girls’ category, faced formidable opponents in Macao, China.
On Monday, Uganda’s boys’ team, spearheaded by Elite High School, secured a hard-fought victory against Brazil.
The game began with a slow start for Uganda, trailing 8-9 at the end of the first quarter. However, the team quickly regrouped in the second quarter, taking a decisive 16-10 lead.
Ultimately, Uganda emerged triumphant with a final score of 45-41, thanks to standout performances by players like Marial Mandiria, who led with 10 crucial points.
On Tuesday Elite High School (Uganda) scored 78 points compared to Chile’s 31 points. At the end of the first half, which includes the second quarter of the game, Uganda had scored 37 points while Chile had scored 15 points.
These scores indicate that Uganda had a strong performance throughout the game, both in the first half and overall, securing a decisive victory over Chile in the ISF World Schools Basketball Championship for Boys.
Meanwhile, in the girls’ category, Uganda faced a tough challenge against Chinese Taipei. Despite their best efforts, the Ugandan girls struggled to contain their opponents’ offensive prowess, trailing 14-31 at halftime.
The game concluded with a final score of 43-69 in favour of Chinese Taipei, highlighting the competitive nature of the tournament and the challenges faced by Uganda’s young athletes.
The ISF World Schools Basketball Championship, running from June 23 to July 3, continues to showcase top-tier youth basketball talent from around the globe.
