Iganga, (UG):- Uganda’s First Lady, who is also the Minister for Education and Sports, Mama Janet Kataha Museveni has donated shs50m to Bethel Healing Center Church in Iganga district in fulfilment of her pledge made last month (May 12) towards the church construction.

The cash contribution was delivered by Iganga Woman Member of Parliament Hon. Kauma Sauda Alibaawo who handed it over to the senior Pastor of Bethel Church Dr Julius Talemwa during the Sunday service at the church premises in Bugumba A, Northern division in Iganga municipality.

While delivering the First Lady’s package, Hon Alibaawo commended Mrs Museveni for fulfilling the pledge in the shortest time and credited the Minister for entrusting her to deliver the money.

“I want to thank the First Lady for fulfilling her pledge when Bethel Healing Centre church invited her as the chief guest at the fundraising to construct the church. She didn’t come but she sent me to pledge shs50m and today I have brought her contribution,” Hon Alibaawo said.

She also commended the President of the Republic of Uganda Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for promoting the freedom of worship during his leadership, in addition to peace and security in the country which has enabled people to worship at all times.

“We also thank the president of Uganda Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for the freedom of worship because everyone in Uganda can worship and also thank you for peace and security which has enabled the faithful to worship uninterrupted,” Hon Alibaawo said before handing over the money to senior Pastor Dr. Talemwa.

However, Pr. Talemwa thanked First Lady Hon Minister Janet Museveni for fulfilling the pledge saying it will be put to the right use by building the church which is anticipated to be one of the biggest in Busoga with a seating capacity of at least 10,000 people

“I want to acknowledge receipt of shs50m from the first lady and it was delivered by Hon Sauda. We are going to use this money in the construction of our church which will have a capacity of 10,000 people and it was estimated to consume shs1.5b by completion,” Pr. Talemwa said before pledging as a church to support various government programs intended to develop people.

He said that there is still a challenge to raise the money since they don’t have donors and urged people to continue supporting them and he assured the community of their broad dream to develop the area.

“This church will bring development in this area because we have many dreams which will be realized in the near future. We still have need since we have raised only close to shs200m in total and we want to call upon others to also to stand with us,” Pr. Talemwa added.

Speaking on behalf of the church construction committee, Ms. Eunice Byotaliwa thanked the First Lady Mama Janet Museveni for the contribution saying it will push the project further, and appreciated Hon. Alibaawo for delivering the money. She said the construction will soon begin this very month

Byotaliwa asked Hon Alibaawo to reach out to the First Lady for an appointment to meet church representatives to deliver their heartfelt appreciation to her and their family for supporting them in the noble cause of constructing the House of God.
