The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Parliamentary Caucus has issued a call for expressions of interest to serve as Chairperson or Deputy Chairperson for various sectoral committees in the 4th session of the 11th Parliament. In a letter dated June 19, 2024, Government Chief Whip Hamson Obua extended this invitation to all NRM Members of Parliament, in line with Rule 14(1) and (3) of the NRM Parliamentary Caucus Rules of Procedure.
This call follows a resolution from the 5th Meeting of the 4th Central Executive Committee of the NRM, held on July 7, 2021. The resolution adopted a rotational basis for committee representation to ensure equitable participation among members. The committees seeking leadership include:
1. East African Community Affairs
2. Education and Sports
3. Gender, Labour and Social Development
4. Health
5. ICT & National Guidance
6. Legal and Parliamentary Affairs
7. Environment & Natural Resources
8. Presidential Affairs
9. Public Service & Local Government
10. Trade, Tourism & Industry
Members interested in serving as Chairperson or Deputy Chairperson for these committees are required to submit their expressions of interest, accompanied by a comprehensive Curriculum Vitae (CV). This process signifies a thorough democratic process and due diligence by the ruling NRM and the leadership of Parliament. Submissions are to be directed to the Office of the Government Chief Whip no later than July 2, 2024.
This initiative underscores Parliament’s commitment to fostering leadership diversity and enhancing the effectiveness of its sectoral committees. This announcement is a significant step towards enhancing parliamentary governance and ensuring that the committees are led by capable and dedicated members, reflecting the diverse interests and expertise within the NRM caucus.
