A suspected outbreak of polio in Mbale city  has sparked concern among health officials and stakeholders, following reports of at least three cases
According to Dr Moses Mugonya the City Health Officer while speaking to our reporter  on phone on Wednesday, 19th June, 2024, he said that they got the suspected cases in Namatala and they have taken samples to Entebbe government laboratory for analysis.
He urged the World Health Organization (WHO), Spotlight Africa, city officials, and the Ministry of Health to avail them with vaccines for vaccinations.
Dr. Mugonya attributed the outbreak to low population immunity against the disease, emphasizing the critical need for immediate intervention.
James Kutosi the Mbale city public relations officer says that people should not plant crops near sewerage  to prevent further spread of the virus.
He urged parents to take their children to the nearest health facilities for polio immunization as an immediate protective measure.
Polio is an extremely deadly disease that can paralyze or kill within a short time if it reaches the chest and the disease causes severe thinning of the limbs, leading to immobility and disability if not promptly treated.
