Buganda Kingdom has today officially announced that Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi is in Namibia recuperating on the advice of his doctors.
Kabaka has been away for months, which has caused discomfort among the Baganda and the wider public, prompting public calls about his whereabouts.
Today, the Katikkiro, Charles Peter Mayiga, the Ministers, Prince David Kintu Wassajja, and the Executive Committee of the Chiefs Council of Buganda held a meeting about the matter.
In a joint statement issued after the meeting, the Mengo government confirmed various media reports that Kabaka is indeed in the southern African country of Namibia, recuperating on the advice of his doctors.
“In recent years, the Kabaka has been unwell, and this has affected his health and disrupted his duties. He received treatment from specialists in Uganda and abroad. The German doctors he visited in March 2024 concluded that for true relief, the Kabaka should take some time off and should avoid work altogether because too much work affects his health. The doctors referred the Kabaka to their fellow specialists who work in Namibia and recommended that he rest there while receiving treatment,” the statement reads.
The Kabaka agreed to leave Europe for Namibia.
It was worth noting that recently, the Katikkiro informed Buganda that the Kabaka was abroad for treatment but did not specify the country.
“As of now, the Kabaka is still in Namibia in the hands of doctors.”
“It is very important and worth emphasizing that the Kabaka is not ill and is not admitted. However, he needs some time to rest in the hands of doctors to recover completely,” the statement reads.
The Mengo government reiterated that it is appropriate for Buganda to know that the health issues of the Kabaka are being dealt with properly and in a very professional manner.
Mengo urged Buganda to avoid those who spread lies and rumors seeking to sow hatred and division and weaken the kingdom.
