Ms Abe Kalpana

Abe Kalpana, the vice president of Plascon Paints, is embroiled in a legal battle with her landlord, Kumba Nakau, over unpaid rent.

The dispute, which has escalated to a civil lawsuit filed in Kampala High Court, threatens Kalpana with eviction from the property.

According to the lawsuit, Kalpana has breached the terms of her rental agreement by failing to make rent payments for a year.

Despite repeated notices from Nakau, Kalpana has allegedly offered unsatisfactory excuses and continues to occupy the premises.

This rent delinquency is not an isolated incident for Kalpana. Sources reveal that her businesses along Lugogo Bypass were previously closed due to similar issues with rent arrears.

The lawsuit details the financial strain Nakau has endured due to Kalpana’s failure to fulfil her rental obligations.

The specifics of the property and the amount of rent owed are not publicly available, but the year-long duration suggests a significant sum.

Consequently, the High Court has issued a summons to Kalpana, demanding a response within 15 days. If she fails to address the lawsuit within the stipulated timeframe, the court may proceed with a default judgment in Nakau’s favour.

This could result in Kalpana’s eviction from the property and a court order compelling her to settle the outstanding rent.

Reports indicate that Kalpana is married to Isao Abe, a member of a prominent Japanese political family with ties to former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

While the lawsuit appears unrelated to her husband’s family background, it raises questions about the financial struggles potentially faced by Plascon Paints under Kalpana’s leadership.

This situation has generated significant interest within Uganda’s business community.

Plascon Paints is a well-established company, and news of Kalpana’s rent dispute has sparked speculation about the company’s financial health.

The lawsuit’s resolution will likely shed light on the reasons behind Kalpana’s rent delinquency and the potential repercussions for both Kalpana and Plascon Paints.
