The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) commenced its nationwide activities in a groundbreaking manner today, marking history with the inauguration of its much-anticipated Digital Membership Registration (DMR) program for membership enrollment. This initiative sets the FDC apart as the first political party in the country and the second in the region to adopt digital methods for member registration, departing from the conventional, labor-intensive, paper-based system.
According to FDC records, there hasn’t been a single instance of life membership since the party’s establishment. Consequently, all members, without exception, are required to renew their memberships to maintain their status within the party and retain their rights to hold positions and participate in decision-making processes. The Finance Committee’s initial proposals and the subsequent approval by the National Executive Committee (NEC), in compliance with the Party Constitution, have established the following membership rates:
- Ordinary Party Cards: priced at 5,000 shs, previously 1,000 shs, with an annual expiration and renewal requirement.
- Corporate Cards:
- Blue Member Kob: Shs. 50,000/=, valid for 5 years.
- Blue Member Nile: Shs.100,000/=, valid for 5 years.
- Crane Member: Shs.200,000/=, valid for 5 years.
- Bronze Member: Shs.1,000,000/=, valid for 5 years.
- Silver Member: Shs.2,000,000/=, valid for 5 years.
- Gold Member: Shs.3,000,000/=, valid for 5 years.
- Platinum Member: Shs.5,000,000/=, valid for 5 years.
- Life member: Shs.10,000,000/=, with no expiry.
Guidelines and conditions for Life Membership have also been outlined, stipulating that individuals must commit to lifelong allegiance to the FDC and meet certain criteria, including age, duration of membership, outstanding service, integrity, leadership qualities, and impartiality.
In his address, the Party President invited colleagues to provide leadership in overseeing the comprehensive rollout of the program, which will ultimately determine the exact number of members.
Reflecting on past challenges, the Party President recalled instances where the party leadership faced criticism for not issuing party cards, leading to calls for an attack on the Party Headquarters to retrieve them. However, thanks to the efforts of the Secretary General and the entire Secretariat staff, the development of the App and the entire system supporting DMR has been tirelessly pursued.
Before officially launching the DMR, the Party President invited the secretariat to demonstrate the user-friendly online registration process to the attendees
